Wow, it’s this time of the year already! the summit call for proposals came really quickly this time, OpenStack Tokyo summit preparations are approaching quicker than ever before!

This time I’ve decided to focus my talk proposals on the Applications that run on top of OpenStack, how to choose most suitable infrastructure for the application, that makes best use of the underlying infrastructure for application’s needs, and how to make best use of OpenStack when designing applications that are cloud native, and cloud aware, to achieve not only agility, but also make sure the application is highly available.

ABSTRACT

OpenStack has grown to become an industry standard agile infrastructure technology, gluing together technologies, methodologies, vendors,and different approaches, and bringing almost all of infrastructure industry to collaborate. When OpenStack started, back in 2009, it was designed to manage Virtual Machines, alot has changed since then, containers came to the masses with Docker becoming a popular technology, and even running applications on bare-metal physical machines is now cool again, with use cases such as Hadoop.

In this talk Arthur Berezin will discuss the following:

Describe how to run and manage virtual machine workloads using Nova
Running applications in Docker Containers with Kubernetes with project Magnum
Running Applications on bare-metal using Ironic, with Sahara and TripleO use cases

Imagine a world where your application workloads are fully autonomous, aware of all the sophisticated infrastructure they run on, monitoring and controlling the environment in a fully automated fashion, taking advantage of the all the benefits of Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Software-Defined-Networking(SDN) and Software-Defined-Storage has to offer.

We all wish to live in this world of unicorns and rainbows, but in reality building cloud aware applications is challenging, let alone leveraging the agile characteristics within existing applications.

Deep Dive Into Highly Available OpenStack Architecture, from Infrastructure to Application Workloads

Many organizations choose OpenStack for its distributed architecture, and ability to deliver Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform for mission critical applications. In such environments, the cloud control plane is ought to provide maximum possible uptime, and it is crucial to build an OpenStack infrastructure deployment that guarantiesApplications’ up-time.

In this talk Arthur Berezin will discuss the following:

– Overview of a highly available OpenStack architecture using Pacemaker and HAProxy.

– In-depth overview of each of OpenStack’s core services, their behaviour and readiness for to run in a highly available configuration, providing Infrastructure and Application workloads uptime and availability.

– Review the new features added to the OpenStack Kilo and Liberty releases to better support a complete active/active configuration.
